New York, March 11, 2025—the 69th United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69) officially opened at the United Nations Headquarters on March 10th, 2025. This year’s session holds extraordinary significance, marking the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, a pivotal milestone in the global pursuit of gender equality and women’s empowerment. World Women Organization sent its official delegation to participate and host a parallel event on global women’s leadership.
Global leaders, policymakers, civil society representatives, and women’s rights advocates have gathered to advance the international agenda on gender equality and women’s empowerment.
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, in his opening speech, emphasized:
“Thirty years ago, the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing adopted the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, laying the foundation for global women’s rights. We must accelerate our efforts to ensure that every woman and girl enjoys equal rights, opportunities, and dignity.”
Angela R, Director General of the World Women Organization, remarked:
“The groundbreaking Beijing World Conference on Women set a global roadmap for gender justice 30 years ago. Its visionary Beijing Declaration and Action Plan remain our guiding compass to this day.”
For the first time, the World Women Organization (WWO, UNWWO) will host a milestone parallel event on March 21, bringing together global female leaders, policymakers, and business representatives to explore ways to advance gender equality, women’s economic empowerment, and sustainable development in the current global landscape.
Jing Zhao Cesarone, Official Representative of the World Women Organization, stated at the CSW69 session:
“Through this parallel event, we aim to empower outstanding women leaders worldwide, amplify our collective voice, strengthen global cooperation, and work together to realize the goals of the Beijing Declaration.”
CSW69 will run until March 21, featuring multiple high-level meetings, thematic forums, and parallel events. Delegates from around the world will engage in in-depth discussions on accelerating the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and advancing Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG5) on gender equality.
